Learning Design Center won the Blackboard Catalyst Award

2 22 1 23  On June 23, the University of San Diego Design Center for Learning and Design won the Blackboard Catalyst Training and Professional Development Award, which recognizes individuals and/or organizations that use the Blackboard program to support and strengthen faculty and staff training and professional development.
The annual Catalyst Award was established in 2005 to recognize the innovation and excellence of the Blackboard community of practice, where millions of educators and learners are working to redefine the possibilities of using technology every day. The winners were selected by a cross-functional team of Blackboard experts, representing the best in their respective fields.
Lee Blakemore, Blackboard’s Chief Customer Officer and President of Global Marketing, said: “We are delighted to pay tribute to this year’s Blackboard Catalyst Award winners for their commitment to improving the educational experience of all learners through EdTech and sharing these insights with the wider community. “We are proud to work with institutions that are committed to innovation to promote student success. ”
Like many universities in the United States and around the world, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020, USD has to change its on-site campus courses to a remote format. To help teachers plan remote teaching, the Learning Design Center has developed a training plan for teachers to use the tools in the Blackboard learning management system. The program includes training courses on the available tools and courses that introduce online course design guided by Blackboard tools and pedagogy. There are also webinar activities on using Zoom for flipped learning and Blackboard Retention Center to retain students.
Heather Leslie, an instructional designer at the Learning Design Center, said: “The effectiveness of this training program is due to the joint efforts of management, faculty, and faculty members who work together to ensure that students can continue to learn without interruption.” This award shows how Torreros rose to meet one of the most pressing challenges of mankind when the campus was forced to close due to COVID-19, and finally persevered. Everyone at USD contributed to this effort and should Proud of success.”
The University of San Diego Learning Design Center team will also announce with other Blackboard Catalyst Award winners during BbWorld 2021 that the BbWorld 2021 Blackboard Annual User Conference will be held from July 13 to 15 and 20 to 22 for two weeks.
